Cate Hotchkiss

Cate Hotchkiss is a Columbia Gorge-based photographer who focuses on natural landscapes. Whether capturing expansive vistas or small patches of wildflowers, her hope is to create dreamy, ethereal images that convey a sense of magic and mystery and invite the viewer to pause and connect. She oftentimes experiments with in-camera techniques, such as long or double exposures, in order to soften or blur shapes and edges, an aesthetic that leans toward the abstract. Cate’s work has been featured in multiple gallery exhibitions, magazines, news outlets and, recently, on trucker hats designed by Pistil, headquartered in Hood River. She also collaborates with nonprofits and other organizations dedicated to protecting the environment.

Additionally, Cate has worked as a freelance writer for more than two decades. Her articles and essays have been published in Runner's WorldWomen's RunningOutside OnlineThe Gorge Magazine, and numerous trade publications focusing on conservation, health, and wellness.

When not on assignment, she enjoys running, hiking, travel, reading, and spending time with family, friends, and dogs.
