No perfect foreground. No control. No waiting for the right setup.
This photograph was made from a tiny fishing boat on the Boundary Waters — the kind of boat that never stops moving. In front of me, my son and husband cast their lines, day after day (one week total). I had only a few elements to work with: water, a distant tree line, and one lucky sunset that arrived like a gift.
I couldn't choose the foreground. I couldn't chase the best light. I worked with what I had: movement, nature, and the people I love most beside me. And somehow, that felt like the point.
This series is a study in surrender. In letting the water's motion and the fading sky do what no tripod or golden-hour could ever plan.
